Beekeeping in the Czech Republic

We have 55 000 beekeepers with 600 000 bee-colonies. Out of those, there are 33 000 are hobby beekeepers who have up to 10 colonies. There are 120 beekeepers who have more than 150 colonies. There average honey production is around 9000 tons per year. The density of bee-colonies is approximately 7.6 colonies/km2. The most common type of bee-hives has the frame measurement of 39×24 cm. Our honey bee population is Apis mellifera carnica.

Work with Youth

There are 212 beekeeping clubs, which meet regularly every week for 2-3 hours.

We have 1871 young beekeepers!

The most active organization working with young beekeepers is “Včelí stráž”, Vladislavova 248, 269 01 Rakovník,, It hosts national and international meetings of young beekeepers.

National Competitions

There is a national competition every year which hosts regularly around 800 young beekeepers aged up to 15 years.
